Are you seeking an internship in the behavioral healthcare field?

Horizon has internship opportunities for students enrolled in applicable 60 credit hour master's degree programs. Horizon Behavioral Health provides services to individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance use issues and/or co-occurring disorders in Lynchburg, VA and the surrounding counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell.

Internships for Fall 2025 include:

  • Emergency Services, Ambulatory Crisis Program, Langhorne Wellness Center – Master’s level student studying Psychology, Social Work, or a related field. This program offers non-hospital services to children and adolescents, provide normative environments with a high assurance of safety and security for crisis response, stabilize individuals, and mobilize the resources of the community support system, family members, and others.
  • Emergency Services, Langhorne Wellness Center– May be a bachelor’s level student studying Psychology or a master’s level student in Counseling or Social Work. Will observe/participate in individual and group sessions with clients, in intake sessions, in treatment planning and in safety planning.
  • Outpatient, Amherst Wellness Center – Master’s level student studying Psychology, Sociology, or related field. MSW candidate preferred. Outpatient services geared specifically to Sweet Briar College.
