Anxiety

Day One:  An estimated 43.6 million (or 18.1%) adults live with mental illness.  (2014, NIMH)

Day Two:  Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress and can actually benefical in some situations.  For some people, however, anxiety can become excessive, and while the person suffering may realize it is excessive they may also have difficulty controlling it and it may negatively affect their day-to-day living.  There are a wide variety of anxiety disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and specific phobias to name a few."  (NIMH, 2016)

Depression

Day Three:  Major depression is one of the most common mental illnesses, affecting 6.7% (more than 16 million) of American adults each year. (MHA, 2014)

Day Four:  Depression causes people to lose pleasure from daily life, can complicate other medical conditions, and can even be serious enough to lead to suicide. (MHA, 2014)
