The Treatment and Recovery Enhancement and Expansion (TREE) program delivers evidence-based, community-centered mental health and substance use interventions to adolescents, ages 12-18, young adults, ages16-25, and their families across Lynchburg, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties. Our Horizon team works closely with local school systems to identify and support youth who are eligible for this program. The program integrates the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (A-CRA) treatment model, which emphasizes the replacement of substance use behaviors with pro-social activities, life skills training, and supportive family engagement. This positive, non-confrontational approach emphasizes engagement in positive social activity, positive peer relationships, and improved family relationships. While enrolled in the program, individuals may receive a combination of services including case management, individual outpatient therapy, group outpatient therapy and service linkage.
Early intervention with evidence-based treatment and recovery services are shown to improve the overall health outcomes of adolescents, transitional aged youth, and their families, by involving the family unit and primary caregivers in the treatment plan and prevent disciplinary action in the public school system.
Individuals may be referred to this program by an adolescent’s school due to possession of substances or paraphernalia on school property. A concerned parent or caregiver can also make a referral by calling Horizon’s admissions department at 434-477-5000 to schedule an initial assessment.
